What makes a good subscription box?

The gift subscription box is gaining in popularity. The Royal Mail anticipate that the gift subscription market will be worth £1 billion by 2020. In the under 35yrs at least 40% of the populus will subscribe to at least one subscription box service.

So what are the benefits of a subscription box?

It’s a good way for an entrepreneur to gain brand awareness. They give the consumer the opportunity to trial sample sizes before committing to the expense of buying a full range. For the retailer it can assist in creating revenue over the slowest of months during a year. It is the gift which continues giving and has an element of surprise.

So what do we want from our subscription box?

Value for money is paramount and secondary is presentation. They need to contain products that you actually want. Variety and quality are key. They might also contain items you wish to stock pile as gifts for friends and family, reducing the cost of gift giving.

I took a look around at what there is on offer in the UK gift subscription market

This box immediately caught my eye . I liked the photography and overall presentation of the box but was disappointed to see they had all sold out!

It isn’t cheap at £30 per month . In the current economic climate that is quite an expenditure for some , however I appreciate the quality this subscription box has to offer.

This box contains yarn spun in Yorkshire and Lancashire. There is enough wool to make a hat and gauntlets. Boxes start from £18.29.

A gift subscription could potentially solve a lot of problems as far as gift shopping is concerned.

There are crafting ones, beauty and even a box subscription with a sachet for a hot chocolate etc.

Its good to see what is on offer and to support small businesses.
